I well remember the storm of 1996. Our water heater died and we couldn’t get it replaced for a week because of road conditions, shipping backlogs, etc. No shower, but at least we were able to heat water on the stove for washing/cooking. I remember that as the smelliest week of my life – good thing we were mostly housebound!
