Is it me or does the weekend seem to fly by? Friday night we had to head into DC with hubby because he had to finish up some things that obviously didn’t get accomplished before he left early to go play golf. Before marriage, I lived in DC and let’s just say it has been some time since I was in DC on a Friday night. Of course we had the Princess and Professor with us. So, we parked on the street outside of hubby’s job and waited for him. I read a book while the kids took to playing on government property.
They took this pic before there were tears and angry faces due to a tripping accident:
I took these pics of two nearby buildings:
It was fun and we grabbed a bite to eat and headed home because the rain was coming. I woke up Saturday and after prayer with our church, breakfast with the family, I headed out into the garden or after all of the heavy rain we have had, what used to be my garden and started cleaning and removing some things. I have become fond of the phrase “hot mess” and that is what my garden is at this moment. The weeds are thriving, the peppers are reaching towards the skies and the tomatoes that are left are about as tired of me as I am of them. After hours spent outside in the garden, I planted some flowers that I had picked out while out with my mom and sister-in-law. The two are a dangerous combination in the flower department, if you don’t plan to spend – leave your money at home.
It pretty much rained all Saturday afternoon into evening and into Sunday morning. Sunday we went to church and had some new people show up which is always nice for a new church. My parents came up so we went to my local orchard guy afterward and picked up some peach and apple seconds. (Note to self: they need to be dealt with…) and headed home. Hubby went to play golf again and my dad and son went different places so that left us girls home. We whipped out some pepper onion relish that barely put a dent in the pepper supply.
We had a delightful dinner and restful evening. Of course when I woke up this morning, many of the items that I had picked on Saturday were staring at me and taunting me with promises of spoiling if I didn’t use them. Under such pressure, I took the big bowl of cherry tomatoes and cut them half, sprinkled them with salt, sugar, pepper and basil and began oven drying them.
After a few hours on 200 degrees F, they came out quite tasty.
We will use some on our pizza tonight and will freeze the rest. Of course, there are still over 50 tomatoes taunting me but I am not wonder woman.
I still have a few squash/zucchini that need my attention as well. Even though it is a lot of work, I am thankful to be able to have the abundance of food and a means of putting it away for my family to be enjoyed in the coming months. Hope yours is a good one!

Mmmm! Those cherry tom’s look scrumptious. Your green bell is beautiful. The salsa looks mighty good too. Can’t wait to can some of our tom’s…looks like a late harvest for us. Some cherry tom’s lately but not enough to can- the heat is really setting things back. Did you know it was National Community Farming week???

Think I’ll have to try drying tomatos like that.. that is if they have enough time to ripen.. if not.. lots of green tomato pickles will be made here.
I’ve spent the last week dealing with an outrageous harvest of beans, waiting for the corn…

I dried some more yesterday and I tell ya, I had to keep the Princess out of the kitchen. Every time she walked by, she would pop another one in her mouth.
It looks like you had a great weekend!
